Milos is a small Cycladic island where getting around requires a bit of planning, public transport exists but is limited, and the island's scattered beaches and villages reward visitors who arrive with their own wheels. The local bus network (KTEL) connects Adamas port to Plaka and a handful of other villages, running throughout the day in summer. But it won't get you to the island's most photogenic corners. For first-time visitors, renting a car or scooter is typically the most practical choice, roads are manageable, distances are short, and you'll reach coves like Sarakiniko and Kleftiko far more easily on your own schedule. ATV rentals are widely available but suit confident drivers only. The terrain can be rough on unpaved tracks. From Milos Airport (MLO), which sits just outside Adamas, taxis are the standard transfer option, the ride into town is short. Check current taxi rates locally, as fixed fares aren't always posted. Ferries from Piraeus (Athens) are the other main arrival point, docking at Adamas harbour, which is also the island's social hub. Ferry frequency and operators vary by season. Check current schedules through official ferry booking platforms rather than assuming daily service. One honest note: boat tours are marketed heavily at the port, and while some are worthwhile for reaching sea caves and remote beaches, the quality varies. Asking your accommodation for recommendations tends to yield better results than booking from the harbour kiosk. Avoid renting an underpowered scooter if you plan to explore the southern half of the island, some roads climb steeply and the gradients catch visitors off guard.
