Month-by-Month Guide
January
January is the heart of Milos's quiet season, with mild but occasionally wet weather. You'll find the island quite sleepy with many hotels and restaurants closed, though it's perfect if you're after solitude and don't mind the possibility of rainy days. The temperatures are surprisingly pleasant compared to northern Europe, but it's definitely jacket weather, especially in the evenings.
February
February continues the winter pattern with similar temperatures to January but slightly less rainfall. The island remains quiet, and while you might get some beautiful clear days, you'll want to pack for changeable conditions. It's actually a decent time for photography with dramatic skies and empty beaches, though swimming is only for the brave.
March
March marks the beginning of spring with temperatures starting to climb and wildflowers beginning to appear across the island. Rainfall drops off compared to winter months, though you'll still want to pack a rain jacket. More businesses start opening toward the end of the month as the island prepares for the tourist season.
April
April is when Milos really starts to shine—temperatures are comfortably warm, rainfall drops significantly, and the island is lush and green from winter rains. It's an excellent time for hiking and exploring, with most tourist facilities now open but crowds still minimal. The sea is still a bit cool for most swimmers, but the weather is generally lovely.
May
May offers some of the best all-around weather on Milos with warm, sunny days and very little rain. The sea starts to become swimmable for most people, and you'll find the island pleasantly busy without being overcrowded. It's ideal for combining beach time with hiking and village exploration, and the light is particularly beautiful for photography.
June
June kicks off the peak summer season with hot, dry weather and minimal rainfall. The sea is now properly warm, and all tourist facilities are in full swing. Crowds start building, particularly toward the end of the month, but it's not yet at August levels. The Meltemi winds often pick up, which keeps things from feeling too stifling.
July
July is peak summer on Milos with hot, reliably sunny weather and essentially zero rainfall. It's prime beach weather, though midday can be quite intense for activities beyond lounging by the sea. The island is busy with tourists, particularly European vacationers, and you'll want to book accommodation well in advance. Expect warm evenings perfect for outdoor dining.
August
August is the busiest and hottest month on Milos, with conditions similar to July but even more crowded. The island is at its most vibrant socially, with beach bars and restaurants buzzing, though prices are at their peak and popular beaches can feel packed. The Meltemi winds are often strongest now, which actually makes the heat more bearable and is great for windsurfing.
September
September is arguably the best month to visit Milos—the sea is at its warmest from months of summer sun, temperatures are still beach-perfect but less intense, and crowds thin out significantly after mid-month. You'll find a more relaxed atmosphere with most facilities still open, and the light takes on that beautiful golden quality. Rainfall remains minimal.
October
October extends the pleasant autumn weather with temperatures still warm enough for swimming, though you might get the occasional cooler day. Rainfall starts to increase but remains relatively light, and many tourists have left while most facilities are still operating. It's excellent for hiking and exploring, with comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds at archaeological sites.
November
November marks the transition to winter with noticeably cooler temperatures and increasing rainfall. Many hotels and restaurants begin closing for the season, particularly after mid-month, and ferry schedules become less frequent. That said, you'll still get pleasant days mixed in with the wet ones, and the island takes on a peaceful, local character.
December
December is the wettest month on Milos, though temperatures remain mild compared to most of Europe. The island is very quiet with limited tourist infrastructure operating, making it suitable only for travelers who specifically want solitude and don't mind working around closures. Ferry connections can be disrupted by weather, so you'll want flexibility in your plans.
